Bates opened the 2010 portion of their season at home in front of a raucous crowd in Underhill Arena on January 16. Both teams set the tone early with physical play in an otherwise uneventful first period. The Bobcats and Huskies combined for nine penalties in the first period alone, and 22 total in the game. Northeastern struck first with under two minutes to go in the first stanza. Just 16 seconds later Charley Stern '13 and Cam Chaput '12 dug the puck out of the corner and fed a waiting Wes Chaput '10 who buried a wrist shot from the slot to even the score. |

Northeastern scored two goals in the first 90 seconds of the second period to jump out to a 3-1 lead that momentarily silenced the crowd. Miles Davee '11 gave the crowd reason to make noise just a few minutes later as he crept in with the puck from the side boards on a powerplay and threaded his wrist shot into the top left corner of the net. Davee scored again midway through the second period to tie the game at 3-3 with assists from the Chaput brothers.
In the third period, with the game still knotted at 3-3, Davee completed the hat trick, scoring three goals in just 21:45 worth of game time. Hats rained down from the packed stands in celebration of Davee's feat, but he wasn't done yet.
Andrew Berry '13 scored his second goal of the year 24 seconds later, and Davee struck a final time while short handed to notch his career-best fourth goal of the night. With Bates up 6-3, Northeastern found late life and scored goals with 5:01 and 4:10 remaining in the game to cut the deficit to one. With just 7 seconds remaining in the game, Northeastern scored the equalizer on a blast from the point to send the game to overtime.
Bates and Northeastern skated four-a-side in overtime until the Huskies found the back of the net on a powerplay to win 7-6. Goalie Joe Doody '11 made 44 saves on the night, including a number of impressive kick saves and snares with his glove.
